Building Personal Branding and Public Speaking Skills in the Digital Era for Universitas IGM Students

Universitas Indo Global Mandiri recently initiated a sharing session with alumni who have successfully ventured into the digital world, and become one of the content creators in Indonesia. The digital era has transformed the way we interact, share, and build trust, both in professional and personal spheres.

In an age of rapid information flow, personal branding and public speaking skills have become two key competencies in high demand. Allya Primi Syahrani, an alumna of the Visual Communication Design Programme at Indo Global Mandiri University, understands firsthand the importance of building a personal image and communicating effectively in the digital realm.

During her guest lecture, she shared valuable insights on how to seize these opportunities and offered tips and tricks for thriving in the digital era. Speaking to hundreds of students, Allya explained that building a personal brand is not only crucial for strengthening one’s character but also serves as a way for individuals to be recognised more broadly. With a strong personal brand, people can more easily identify our skills, values, and personality, which ultimately opens up more career and personal opportunities, Allya remarked.

She added that public speaking skills cannot be overlooked either. In the digital era, speaking effectively is no longer confined to physical stages. Engaging on online platforms such as webinars, podcasts, and social media has also become a part of public speaking. Public speaking is not just about talking; its about delivering messages clearly, confidently, and impactfully, she added.

One of the biggest transformations in the digital era is the role of social media as the primary platform for building a personal brand.

Allya emphasised that today, social media is not only a tool for socialising but also serves as a reference point for job seekers. How we present ourselves on social media often becomes the first impression in the recruitment process, she concluded. (andhiko ta/dzulfiqor ammar)
