Indo Global Mandiri University Receives GIS Ambassador University (Platinum Level) ESRI Award 2020

Indo Global Mandiri University Continues to Achieve National Recognition. The Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Awarded Indo Global Mandiri University the GIS Ambassador University (Platinum Level) at the ESRI GIS Award for Education Ceremony on Thursday (December 17, 2020).

This award is given to individuals and universities that have made significant contributions in increasing spatial awareness, developing and applying GIS knowledge, and fostering the broader growth of the spatial community in Indonesia.

In this award with several categories, Indo Global Mandiri University received the GIS Ambassador University award, becoming the only private university to achieve this recognition.

The Rector of UIGM, Dr. H Marzuki Alie, SE MM, stated that winning the GIS Award from Esri Indonesia proves the university’s achievements and dedication to geospatial technology. “Together with UIGM, we can equip our students with the necessary skills and help them succeed in the increasingly advanced digital era, whether in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, or Real-Time Analysis,” he emphasized.

Moreover, this educational program has integrated real-world industry experience in GIS software with best practice training. “I hope this brings blessings and benefits for everyone. UIGM is the best,” he said.

ESRI Indonesia’s CEO, Achmad Istamar, emphasized that partnering with universities across Indonesia is one of their main priorities, as this effort supports various innovation-based research throughout the country.

The award is a high appreciation from ESRI for educators, students, and communities who have implemented geospatial solutions to teach, conduct research, and ultimately enhance the quality of education in Indonesia. “It is also important to note that this reflects the implementation of the Tri Dharma of higher education, which includes education, research, and community service,” he concluded.

As is known, the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) is a company that supplies international geographic information system (GIS) software, web-based GIS, and geodatabase management solutions. These universities have adopted modern GIS (ArcGIS Platform) into their curriculum and practical training. GIS is not only well utilized within the campus environment but also through partnerships with government agencies and non-profit organizations to produce various works across multiple fields.
